A.K. Callahan memoir: the segregated society
A.K. Callahan was born in 1904 in Tuscaloosa County. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1926 and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar Association that same year. He practiced law in Tuscaloosa, Pickens, Greene, and Hale Counties with his law partner, Senator Skidmore. Callahan also served in the Alabama House of Representatives nonconsecutively for over twenty years. During his tenure as a lawyer in Alabama, he represented over 1,000 African Americans in various courts.

In his narrative, A.K. Callahan discusses the treatment of African Americans during segregation.

Recorded in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on January 27-28, 1980, as part of the University of Alabama in Birmingham Oral History Research Project.
