Geneva Gaines memoir life of a Sacred Harp singer
Geneva Gaines was born in Cook Springs, Alabama, on December 21, 1886. At age three, she became a Sacred Harp singer, and at age seven she attended music school in Cook Springs. Her father was A.S. Perry, a well-known Sacred Harp singer who worked for Southern Railroad.

In her narrative, Geneva Gaines discusses her life and work in Sacred Harp singing.

Recorded in Birmingham on October 20 and November 1, 1975, as part of the University of Alabama in Birmingham Oral History Research Project.
