What was life like before integration? [Lewis E. Bagwell memoir]
Lewis Bagwell was born in Morgan City, Alabama, in 1912. He attended Arab High School and Florida State University before graduating from the University of Alabama with a B.A. He later received an M.A. in Education from the University of Alabama. He was principal of Trinity High School (currently West Morgan County High School). He moved to Birmingham in 1953 and served as principal at Adamsville, Greenwood, and Crumly Chapel High Schools.

In his narrative, Lewis Bagwell discusses civil rights and the education system before and during integration of the Jefferson County school system.
